Message: From wikipedia,
"The longest tournament chess game ever to be played under modern time rules was Nikolić-Arsović, Belgrade 1989, which lasted for 20 hours and 15 minutes, ending in a 269-move draw.[1][2] At the time this game was played, FIDE had modified the fifty move rule to allow 100 moves to be played without a piece being captured in a rook and bishop versus rook endgame, the situation in Nikolić - Arsović. FIDE has since rescinded that modification to the rule.
The longest decisive tournament game is Fressinet-Kosteniuk, Villandry 2007, which Kosteniuk won in 237 moves.[2] The last 116 moves were a rook and bishop versus rook ending, as in Nikolić - Arsović. Fressinet could have claimed a draw under the fifty-move rule, but didn't do so since neither player was keeping score, it being a rapid chess game. Earlier in the tournament, Korchnoi had successfully invoked the rule to claim a draw against Fressinet; the arbiters overruled Fressinet's argument that Korchnoi couldn't do so without keeping score. Fressinet, apparently wanting to be consistent, didn't try to claim a draw against Kosteniuk in the same situation.[3]" ——— Children 1, Astronaut 0 — In the end, the astronaut could not outwit the children. Wednesday, Greg Chamitoff, an American astronaut, resigned a long-running correspondence chess game against a group of children from Stevenson Elementary School in Bellevue, Wash. They had started the game in September 2008 while Chamitoff was stationed aboard the International Space Station. The game had been the idea of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Officials at the agency had asked the United States Chess Federation about having Chamitoff play a game of chess against some of the federation’s members. Stevenson was chosen as an opponent because the school ...

www.xs4all.nl ——— London Chess Classic: Kramnik's lesson in positional play — McShane-Kramnik, London 2009. Black to play. With two rounds to go in the London Chess Classic, the Norwegian chess prodigy Magnus Carlsen looks set to win the tournament. Vladimir Kramnik, his main rival, is in second place. In this game from round three, Kramnik displayed his refined positional understanding. RB I've been following this tournament online, but I missed this particular game, and more's the pity because I can't find a good continuation for Black. Clearly Kramnik has the better game – the two centralised knights look very threatening – but how to convert Black's positional superiority into a winning position? 1...Nxd2 2 Nxd2 doesn't lead anywhere and ...

Message: I am talking about move wise? ——— Gelfand Wins World Chess Cup — Boris Gelfand of Israel is the 2009 World Cup champion. Gelfand won the title by beating Ruslan Ponomariov of Ukraine in a playoff on Monday. The first four games of the playoff were rapid games (25 minutes per player per game) and Gelfand took the lead by winning the second game. But Ponomariov, with his back to the wall, won the last rapid game to tie the match up again. The playoff then went to blitz chess (5 minutes per player per game) and Gelfand once again took the lead by beating Ponomariov in the first game when he managed to trap Ponomariov’s queen in 21 moves. Ponomariov rallied again, winning the second game. But Gelfand won the third and Ponomariov ...

Message: Does anybody think, if you brake that 269 move record as the world longest game would that count for something, if you broke the record on this site? ——— A tragic knight — The London Chess Classic, a fabulously organized eight-player elite tournament, shaped up as a confrontation between two great chess grandmasters, the top-rated Magnus Carlsen of Norway and the former world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik of Russia. By the luck of draw, they met in the first round, and Carlsen won. The Norwegian GM was still in a clear lead on Sunday with four points in five rounds, a full point ahead of Kramnik. U.S. chess champion Hikaru Nakamura drew four games and lost one. The tournament concludes Tuesday. The Carlsen-Kramnik duel looked like a perfectly played game by the Norwegian, who took advantage of Kramnik's stranded knight. "If one piece is ...

No, I doubt it very much. Especially if you are thinking that your game with tk29560 will go that long. On move 71, it was a mate in 11, even though you guys on currently on move 152.
It's half-interesting, but it's too easy to just drag games out here for it to have some real official meaning in the overall stats book. ——— A Game Lasts 163 Moves, and That's Not Even a Record — Chess professionals are conditioned to games that take four to five hours and last about 50 moves, but occasionally play lasts much longer and the contest becomes a war of attrition. That is what happened between Nigel Short and Luke McShane of England in the first round of the London Chess Classic, which started on Tuesday. McShane, who had White, got a tiny advantage out of the opening, but Short defended well, and after 60 moves it seemed as if the game would end in a draw. But McShane, 25, persisted and Short, 44, was forced to continue to defend. It took McShane seven hours, and 163 moves, but he finally broke Short and forced him to resign. That ...

Message: That must be deliberate. I'm surprised the 50 move rule has not been triggered yet. They must be trying to take advantage of each position to maximize the potential number of moves within the 50 move rule.
The game is so long that my computer slows down trying to run the script for the it. I even get a warning from Windows saying that if the script continues the computer may become unresponsive. I kept running it anyway, but didn't have the problem for too long. I just needed to wait a couple minutes.
That game appears to be on-going, but I don't see how it can continue for much longer.

It's on move 2167 right now. But again, completely ridiculous game. I know there was mate earlier, but going from memory, the position at move 71 was close to:
The game did not need nearly 2000 more moves, so that really takes away from it feeling like the legit winner of longest game.
I hope I'm not coming across as too arrogant. I know that some people can't mate with a rook and king vs a king. But at some point, you could just ask someone or look it up. It's one of the easier skills to learn.

Message: 50 move draw rule doesn't occur automatically. They would have to request draw manually, or ask Mike to declare it a draw.

Message: Well, the 3rd repeat position draw rule does occur automatically.
Occasions where the 50 move rule might apply do not happen very often. Yet, it should be a simple fix. Such a fix might prevent absurd games lasting thousands of moves!

Message: Threefold repetition rule is triggered automatically in GK, however the game will not end automatically, but the next person to move is given an option to claim the game a draw. Much like in normal OTB chess, the process is not automatic.

MaCa.

Message: A game I played with conditional moves ended automatically with the threefold repetition rule. Maybe it had something to do with the conditional moves. Conditional moves are active when you have a vacation flag. If the threefold repetition occurs while I am on vacation, then I won't be around to take the option. Perhaps that is why it was automatic. (But I could have taken the option when I got back, or perhaps my opponent took the option). I expected it to happen automatically and from my perspective it did.

Message: without analysis, i believe it to be mate in 3 from move 71...
71... Re4 (or anywhere past the king on the 4th row)
72. Kh2 Re1 (or whatever row you're on, move to the 1st, eg Ra1, or Rb1)
73. Kh3 Rh1#
it's entirely possible that both players believe it to be drawn, and have decided to continue playing the game until one of them dies. i can remember when i first started playing chess, i thought R vs K was a draw. the first key to breaking this silly belief is knowing what the mate looks like, then forcing your opponent into the position is child's play.
