9/23/2003 00:54:22 [ report this post ] | Found him !
Message: He has zoomed up from 74 to No.46 in the world. Now he faces a tricky decision, does he give up Chess to pursue his Academic career or does he take the risky decision to become a Chess professional. He has the potential to become a world title contender.....as I say, a tricky decision.
Kind regards,
Cal

Message: It must be a very tough decision to make for Luke McShane. He had made a giant step on this last list, so I could imagine he would be very tempted, to try an make a living as a professional.
Bent Larsen was asked many-many times, if he could live of, being a professional chessplayer and his answer everytime was NO!!!, but he made a quite a good living of being a writer!
I'm glad we don't have to make that kind of decisions, or? :-))
Best wishes

Message: Where did Artur go? At least his old time rival is still in the top 100, at the last place...
Seriously, does anybody know what became of Yussopov? Thanks to his books with Dworetski I at least understood the basic opening principles... though most of the other stuff was much too deep for me.

9/24/2003 03:54:35 [ report this post ] | Luke McShane
Message: Luke McShane has just won the Young Masters title in Lausanne, ahead of all the best young players in the world. This probably makes him the best young prospect in the world.
Please.... please.... Luke, don't retire from Chess as you are planning to do. If he gives up three of the most important Chess years in his life to pursue a University education he will never make up the ground that he will have lost on his rivals.
The pity of it is that if Luke was American, corporate sponsors would be throwing money at him as he has every chance of eventually becoming World Champion.
Kind regards,
Cal

Message: Roman, I am not even going to try and spell his last name, is 'only' 2542 so he didn't make the top 100 list.

Message: I could lure you into a spelling error, but no such luck. Roman could have been a contender if his temperament for gambling didn't get the better of him...thanks for finding the 2542 rating for him (not too shabby).
