 Subject: Q+R endgame for analysisMessage: Position for analysis: White: Kg1, Qe5, Rb1, b4, c5, e3, g2, g5 Black (your sinful): Kg8, Qf7, Rf8, c6, d5, e4, g7, h7 --- The game went as 31. b5!? cxb5 --- And then my opponent allowed a blunder 32. Rxb5? and lost a Rook after 32. ... Qf1+ --- Instead of that, I see the white's sharp move 32. c6!? --- I believe, Black has an edge, but ... is it enough to win? Any ideas? --- When I'll have more time, I'll give beginning of this game with short annotation. |

So I'm continuing by providing one of possible lines: -- 31. b5!? сxb5 32. c6 Re8 33. Qd6 Qe6 and now: a) 34. Qxe6 Bxe6 35. c7 Rc6 36. Rxb5 Rxc7 37. Rxd5 b) 34. Qc5 Rc8 35. Rxb5 Rxc6 36. Qxd5 Qxd5 37. Rxd5 -- Both of them looks like better for Black, or aren't they? :-) Could somebody be able to found an inaccuracies in them? :-) |

However, from the position in question, Black has an easy draw with 32... Qf2+ 33. Kh1 Qh4+ 34. Qh2 Qxh2+ 35. Kxh2 Rc8. Black can try for more with 34... Qxg5, but White could just allow the perpetual check on move 34. After 31. b5 cxb5 32. c6 Qf2+ 33. Kh1 Qh4+ 34. Qh2 Qxg5 35. c7 Qxe3 36. Qd6 Qh6+ 37. Qxh6 gxh6 an important position arises that every player should be aware of, where White wins easily after 38. Rxb5 because Black cannot prevent Rb8 and the two connected passers are not advanced enough to draw against the Rook. For example, 38... Rf1+ 39. Kh2 Rc1 40. Rb8+ Kf7 41. c8=Q Rxc8 42. Rxc8 d4 43. Rc4, or 42... Ke6 43. Kg3, etc. |

| atrifix 10/21/2003 00:14:02 [ report this post ] | After Message: 35... Rc8 we have arrived at a book draw, e.g. 36. Rxd5 Rc3 37. Rd4 Rxe3 38. Kg1 and Black cannot protect the pawn on e4. Even if you take away white's pawn on g5 and simply give White a pawn deficit the position is still a book draw. |
