Subject: What opening is this?
Message: When I play chess for my club I always bring home the score sheet and copy them into a book. I always write the name of the opening underneath mine and my opponents name. The other night I played a game and I don't know what to classify the opening as, can anyone help?
It started off 1.d4 Nf6 2.e3 g6 3. c4 Bg7 4.b3 d5... ( I was playing black)
It's not really a KID is it as there's no Knight on C3, should I just mark it down as a miscellaneous?

Message: some sort of Grunfeld. closed Grunfeld with e3. But as fas as I know, it's not too popular to play b3 there. Can't tell exactly, cause it still can transpose to something else.

Message: ....the Basque Opening 1.d4 Nf6 2.b3 by transposition. It was invented by Tartakower to celebrate a tournament in (I think) San Sebastian.

Message: Thanks very much!
Not sure if my opponent knew he was playing this, he didn't seem very well informed on opening theory. But still as long as I know what to classify it as.

Message: I cut and pasted your moves into Fritz 8 and let it classify the opening. Fritz thinks it is A45: Trompowsky Attack (not that I am familiar with it!).

Message: It could go to some (unusual) lines of KID, Larsen's opening or it's (as to say) 'miscellaneous'
