Subject: kasparov's new book
Message: its interesting that the book isn't called "my great predecessors and successor" since he claims kramnik is the current world champion. It seems unfair that he can call kramnik world champion when he doens't honour the fide world champions. Kasparov also doesn't say anything much about this system that there are currently several people who claim to be world champion. I have part one and it looks good. I heard part 2 is out, when are the next two comming out?

Message: I agree, gibo. The fact that Kasparov was succeeded by Kramkink certainly seems to merit attention by Kasparov.

Message: It's never been explained to me why it is so difficult for there to be a regular world-title match. Why not, say, every year or every other year? At least then this sort of dispute would not exist. Lastly, Kramnik may be world champion, but then the chess world is much more interested in Kasparov!

Message: anaxagoras the reason it is so difficult is because its difficult to agree on a time control also which players should be involved in the match, what type of match it is, eg round robin knokout or whether the two highest rated players simply play a matc. It is also difficult to find sponors which is the reason there is no ponomario-kasparov match

Message: Alms for chess players? I should have known that few are offering! Approximately how much money is needed to sponsor a match?

Message: Prize funds alone for World Championship matches can easily reach into the millions of US Dollars, and then you still have to add to that the costs of renting a tournament hall, paying for hotel rooms, paying for organizing personnel salaries, and the myriad of other costs associated with holding such a match.

Message: that Chess's organizational bodies are weak? Couldn't a strong organization dictate match
parameters and locate sponsors? IMO these big chess events are conducted like prize
fights with too much power held by the players as opposed to the governing body.

Message: honololou seems to have made an excellent point. The players must conform to a standard if any playing is to be done at all. Unfortunately, it is not the least surprising that a game for individualists would have a weak governing body.
