Subject: Chess Pet Peeves
Message: Warning: if u post ur chess related pet peeves in here... ur opponents could use them against u...
But moving on, do any of you have any pet peeves that relate to chess? Are there any moves that some of your opponents make that REALLY bug you? Is your pet peeve slow chess games? Is it fast chess games? Is your pet peeve a gambit?
Ya, I just wanna know what bugs you when you're playing chess, or if you love every bit of it. Happy posting! ;-)

Message: HI. I hate in when my opponent wins!!!
I hate when they play the French .
I hate when they cause me to make a blunder
I hate it when they stop my little pawn from promoting
I hate it when they kill my HORSEY!!!!!!!!
I really really hate it when they have one more queen than I do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously all kidding aside ,my biggest peeve in chess is if my opponent makes a rude comment to me. Otherwise its kill or be killed ,-in the game I mean. -Debbie

Message: oh mi gosh! I haaaaaaaate it when they take my horsey too :p
And I agree with you on the rude comments thing. I consider it rude when I make a mistake and my opponent tells me something like... "that was a stupid move! why did you do that???????" That reeeeeally bugs me! I know I made a bad move, its just really annoying when they point it out =\

Message: I don't like the Sicilian Opening, and I don't like the English Opening.
OTB, I don't like it when people do something that could mess up my personal chess board/pieces. Usually this is when someone is eating something greasy, or when water gets spilled on it (this happened twice to me in the same tournament this year!)

Message: I hate when my opponent plays the Petroff. I mean come on have some originality. Like why are you copying my every move?. Other than that I really don't like it when my opponent lip-synchs while he's taking the time to make his move.
As about the rude comment I have done that on ocasions, sorry 'bout that, but I didn't realise that it was so offensive...

Message: I hate it when my opponent blunders (more so than when I blunder).
Right in the middle of a heated battle, you think of some
brilliant plans, but you never get to try them out because your
opponent blunders away the game. Very unsatisfying way to win.

...but seriously, I find myself being lulled to making weak moves in Guiocco Piano! :(

Message: My opponent makes a number of moves that are in many ways superior to my moves which ultimately leads to my opponent winning material and/or creating an overwhelmingly superior positional advantage.

4/02/2004 08:23:52 [ report this post ] | How many people can relate to this one...
Message: Ok, how many people hate this one?! On Gameknot, you're in the middle of a game with someone rated 100 points above you, and they let all their games timeout bringing them down about 500 points, so instead of getting beat by a 1600 level player, you get beat by an 1100 level player when in reality they are a much better player. Grrrr.

4/02/2004 17:50:57 [ report this post ] | The new clocks
Message: with the stupid "move counters" on them. So your opponent and you get into a clock punch dual, until he sets up the pieces he's knocking over, then claims his clock says he made time control.
And another. Had a guy that would knock over multiple pieces Every Move in our time scramble. Then set them back up, heaven knows where. (And to top it off you don't speak the same language. You stop the clock he'll think you resigned!) But nowadays, I would stop the clock regardless of rule or consequence and drag in a TD to verify the position I think. Rather than playing on Who Knows What Game.
Seems to me there must be some kind of right to Finish the Same Game you Started !

Message: Another pet peeve I have is the opponents queen often is rude to me . Chasing my little horsey around or giving me those glaring hateful stares. I have noticed her laughing at me when executing my poor bishop. This will not do. Possibly Mike could instruct the chess Queens here at GK to be just a little more polite. And some of them sneaky pawns have a mean disposition too!!
Other than that GK is the absolute best chess site ever!!--BBG

Message: I really hate it when somewere in the opening my opponent makes a strange move that I'm shure I had looked at sometime ago at home. And more -- I am shure that there IS a refutation to that move, but I just can't remember it... Time is ticking, I'm thinking, halucinations come in, I don't remember the theory and play a bad move... When I get home, I take a look in the book, and there it is -- quite a simple variation, that I even had seen, but some halutination made me think, that the variation was bad.
Good thing I don't have to deal with it at GK :)

Message: opponent makes opening moves like a4, b4, g4, h4... when i play 1.e4 and opponent plays 1....e5 ... when someone says "pirc automatically loses" or "1.e4 1-0" or "1.d4 loses"...if all those moves were either automatically a win or a loss, why would we play that opening, or why would we even play chess if we could just do 1.e4 and win??????????
