Subject: I'm having trouble in chess these days!

Message:
I'm a very good player of chess young, attacking and defensive at the same time.
when I start chess may be 9 or 10 months ago my friends used to beat me very
easily and now beating me is the most difficult thing for them.
but I think now a days I'm loosing my touch I can think of 3 to 7 moves ahead
but now a days I just can't do in though beating me still difficult, but I know I'm
a lot better than that.
So anyone of you good people can tell me how can I put myself on track again.
Waiting for your replies.

Actually taking a break from chess isn't a bad idea...Try replaying your losses in order to find out why you are losing, thats helped me alot. Sometimes a losing streak takes on a life of it own. Last Spring I won about 1 or 2 games in a stretch of about 19 here at GK. Try playing less games and really focus on the games you do play. Take longer to make your moves. Consider all your options before making your final move. Remember its only a game. Well that last comment may not be true...Chess is really a war...Good Luck...

Ketchuplover has an idea there, but

you can send to him c/o my address; cash, certified bank check, bearer bonds all OK. :)
But may help the Chess more, to study something. Any games or GM that you will find interesting. That is what helps me. When my play is suffering, generally need to readdress the balance of Play vs Study. And seek more of the latter. Regards, Craig
PS. Or a lil vacation per Anaxagoras, if you are really just "too Chessed-out".

PS/ However ....

Message:
if you are playing the same small group all the time, you have to accept that after awhile they may just get onto your game & style after awhile. And be harder to beat than before. Is common. Just better play from them.
If you realy are making more mistakes yourseld tho. Should be paossible to find and eliminate if you are willing to put the work into review of your games. I once reviewed mine statistically in otb and found rather then any paricular type of error, I was tending to move weakly on move 18 mostly, and somewhat so from 18 thru 22. Even this type of info is helpful to your game play.

Improvement

Message:
Read chess books and try to absorb some of it. I've increased my rating 440 points in 8mons. Stick with a few openings you like and don't forget tactics. There are lots of good books on tactics and stratergy. Last play here and choose opponents slightly better than your rating and learn from your mistakes.

Might be just a stage

bilalkhokhar,

I don't want to make comparison, but if your GK rating is somewhat similar to your real strength, I don't think you're stuck with something, but you became aware of your weaknesses again. I find it myself pretty often.

I'm not strong myself (1400-1450 in GK), and when I review my games, I find tons of blunders from both me and my opponents. Many of them are quite amusing as they comes from so basic mistakes. I can't see several moves ahead at my level simply because that I cannot make reliable assessment of a position.

What I'm currently doing is keeping my openings to mimimum variety and concentrate the middle game strategy. However, there are so many wonderful advices in this forum on how to improve in chess.
