 Subject: Jimmy Adams; Are ye out there?Message: I have a book, 1978 "Polugaevsky Variation" by Jimmy Adams. Publisher is an England address. Can anyone tell me anything re this author? Especially Chess credentials? Any relation to Michael Adams? etc. Book tells nothing of the author! Copyright & publisher is "The Chess Player Ltd". Thanks if so. |

Apart from that my literary/chess sources are drawing a blank. Curious, you can normally find an authors bio fairly easily. Hope this helps....more than willing to stand corrected. |

He was indeed editor of the Chess Monthly magazine and, by evidence of the numerous chess articles/Russian translations he has accredited to him over the years, one assumes he was a proficient Russian linguist. Digging around in my archives, I unearthed a reference to Jimmy and a "car load" of London compatriots buzzing around Europe on a chess tour in the mid 70's. Some games mentioned from the tour include this one from Jimmy. And I did receive some Google info from Mlazar. (Sugarandspice, sorry you overestimated me there. I did search his name thru GK Forums, then "forgot" to go web it. Sometimes my disc is blank I believe 8-( The additional from Google follow; re his three additional books: Art-Nr.:LXADABAD1925, ISBN 0-939433-13-3 BADEN-BADEN 1925 382 pgs., 1991 Art-Nr:LXADAMSOS 1935, ISBN 0-939433-52-4 MOSCOW 1935 Int'l Chess Tmt 356 pgs, 1998 Art-Nr:LOADASDNPP, ISBN 0-9-6-42-30-5 SICILIAN DEFENSE- Najdorf Poisoned Pawn 120 pg's. While mine mentioned up above is very plan White Paperback with some Chess Pieces on front, and in English. These are a bit different. They are all in English as well, but all are bound in Gold Embossed Cloth. Sounds like he had some success there, from my shorter paperback of the 70's to his Gold Embossed longer texts of the 90's. Intrigues me even more. And such paucity of info on him for 20+ years, it seems ! (MI-6? Chessmaster 007 ?! Man of Mystery?) Must go MOVE now quickly! Bye now. |

A real long shot occurs to me; if related to American(I think)Master of some level, Weaver Adams ??! Who did author some books or manuscripts involveing the Vienna or Bishop's Opening, and once a little theoretical print-tussle with GM Larry Evans over the strength of the opening. Probably was Chess Life & Review, before Chess Life.(?), as to the Evans Articles. |
