 Subject: Breaking newsMessage: Kasimdzhanov vs Kasparov in Dubai 12.10.2004 The reunification match between FIDE world champion Rustam Kasimdzhanov and Garry Kasparov is scheduled to take place next January in the United Arab Emirates. FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov clinched the deal with Sheikh Mohammed al-Maktoum in Dubai today. The prize sum is US $1.2 million. Stand by for further details... The news comes at a time when people were just beginning to give up any hope of the Prague reunification process coming to fruition. But now FIDE has announced a press conference for tomorrow, October 13, at 12 noon, at the Interfax News Agency Headquarters in Moscow. Although the FIDE web site only specifies that it is "regarding Kasparov-Kasimdzhanov World Championship Match" our contacts in Dubai say that the deal has been finalised. Sheikh Mohammed al-Maktoum is far too important a person for it not to be serious. Currently the FIDE president himself is on his way from Dubai to Moscow. | bucklehead 10/12/2004 15:03:45 [ report this post ] | Remarkable Message: Now we wait on the conclusion of the Kramnik-Leko world championship match...I notice that Kramnik was a (necessary) signatory to the Prague unification agreements, but Leko was not. With Leko leading in the match and the championship in sight, will he (if he wins) consent to the process and put his title on the block so soon--perhaps just over a year, if the current schedule is any guide--after winning it? It is possible, of course, that Leko would be bound by an agreement with Dannemann to consent to the Prague structure, but I don't know whether such a provision exists. |

The World Championship Match between World Champion Rustam Kasimdzhanov of Uzbekistan and the world`s highest rated player, Garry Kasparov of Russia shall be held 7th to 24th January 2005 in Dubai. This was announced by FIDE President H.E. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov at a press conference on 13th October at the Interfax News Agency in Moscow. The match will be held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum with a prize fund of USD 1 200 000. President Ilyumzhinov said that this is one of the steps of the Prague Agreement signed two years ago in the Czech Republic. The winner of the Kasparov � Kazimdzhanov match will play against the winner of the Kramnik � Leko match. The FIDE President assured the journalists that the match will take place and said that players have agreed the schedule. Kasimdzhanov proposed and Kasparov agreed to a rest day after three games. Players� contracts with FIDE will be sighed in a few days. The two players are doing their utmost to comply with FIDE regulations, Kirsan Ilyumdzhinov said. Players will be billeted at the plush 7-star Burj Al Arab hotel. Playing venue shall be announced later. One of the strongest and oldest chesstournaments in the world!! A tournament where Kasparov had joined several times and played great games! So another example of bad planning of the FIDE! |
| soikins 10/14/2004 02:59:57 [ report this post ] | I could add Message: They are going to play 12 game match (time controll: 2 hours/40moves + 1 hour/20 moves + 15+30' per move for the rest of the game), if the result is tied, additional 4 rapid games will be played, if the score is still tied, blitz tiebreak is played by the rules used in FIDE WCh.
