Subject: Help with Fritz database?
Message: I got some excellent advice a few weeks ago about using Fritz 8. Maybe some of you can now help me with a question regarding using the database that comes with it
*
Here's the problem. I've downloaded my Gameknot games in PGN format into a database folder. From Fritz, I go into the database and the games are listed. Let's say I want to find all the games where I play as white. I'll select "Filter Games" and make that selection. Now, there are several other options to choose or not in that box, like ELO rating, etc., and I've tried virtually every combination I can think of (it's not the most user-friendly program, to be sure) and no matter what I seem to do, when I hit "OK" I get a "no games found" message.

I'm sure there is some simple answer to why about 50% of the games are not being returned to me, but I sure can't figure it out. Any suggestions as to what not so obvious step I'm missing? I've looked on the Fritz website, but there's nothing there. Thanks in advance.

Message: But, I've had trouble when filtering the database and entering user names for white and/or black. The program always tries to capitalize the first letter of the search name and will produce no results. I get around it by entering a wildcard <*> character for the search.
For example, if searching for wschmidt, try entering *schmidt.
Dunno if this helps, but passing on my limited experience....

Message: Thanks for the help! That makes two out of two helpful responses from Gameknot folks as I've struggled with Fritz. Is this a great site or what? ws
