simple draw

Message:
It is a simple draw. White cannot win with an extra outer ("a" or "h") pawn if black king controlls promotion square. There is no way to push the black king out of there, even if white holde the opposition.

In this position even if white had extra white square bihop, it would still be a draw.

I used that trick (b-color bishop+h-pawn can't win King at h1) against duke (that was difficult endgame of Knight vs. Bishop)
:
11-Jul-03 1793 +4.7 duke (black) 1966 draw 42

Hi, Alice

Message:
With black to move, 1...Kh8. Black keeps moving back and forth from h8 to h7 as long as that move is available. If white leaves the pawn at h6 and moves Kg6, black responds with Kg8. A check by the pawn moves the black king back to the corner. At that point white has to give up the pawn by moving the king away (draw) or, if he protects the pawn, black has no move (stalemate).
