Message: I'm reminded of another American with incredible talent and a terrible blindspot - Ezra Pound, one of the founders of modern poetry in English, who, like Fisher, could create works of art of incredible beauty. But during WWII he railed against the Allies, spewed anti-Semitic diatribes and broadcast Facist propoganda from Italy. After the war, the American and British artistic community rallied around him and managed to have him placed in a mental institution, St Elizabeth's in Washington, so he could avoid being tried for treason.

Sometimes, reading about Fisher, I am struck by the similarities between the two men and the way their respective communities provided support for their beloved madmen. If memory serves me correctly, Pound, at the very end of his life, recognized and acknowledged the terrible botch he had made of things . I wonder if Fisher will. I'm sorry to say that I doubt it.
