Subject: question about Leko-Short Wijk aan Zee 2005
Message: Hi,
I've got a question about a game between those two players that was played in Wijk aan Zee and annotated by Leko in New In Chess 2(2005).
After reaching that position
4n1k1/5p2/B5p1/p1RPr2p/8/5P1P/P5P1/6K1
it's white to move and he moves d6.
Leko gives his move a ! and writes about it" Black resigned. On 37 ... Rc5 comes 38) d7, and because of the sepcial construction the pawn will queen in the next move."
I don't get this...
Who says, as black you're supposed to take on c5?? Why not give a check on e1, gaining the tempo to get behind the pawn? And indeed, that is what Fritz suggests. But here's another strange thing. Fritz recomends the following line:
37) ... Re1+ 38) Kf2 Rd1 39) Rc8 Rxd6
Excuse me??? Why that? Why not simply 39) ... Kf8 and then Rxd6?
Can anyone enlighten me?

Message: After 37. d6 Re1+ 38. Kf2 Rd1 39. Rc8 Kf8 then 40. Bb5 wins the Knight anyway.
