Fantastic article ...

Message:
... totally true. If someone wants to learn about chess in the world today, or get interested in the top players, its very hard to come up with anything of interest.

I have a good personal example here. I'm a US citizen, but I'm living and working in Asia, and I'm looking into starting a chess club and trying to find out how I can get this club affiliated with FIDE and get some members into FIDE. For the last three days (time permitting) I've gone to the FIDE site, done other web searches, looked and looked ....

... maybe its just my stupidity but I still can't find out how to get into FIDE. WHY??? (assuming it's NOT solely my stupidity)

People in chess don't know how to market. They aren't very inviting to the rest of the world out there. I hope some pivotal people in the world of chess would read this article.

PS If you can tell me how to get into FIDE, I would appreciate a link ...

FIDE Doesn't Do . . .

Message:
. . . memberships, club affiliations, etc. You (or your federation) pays fees when you play in a FIDE tournament, earn a FIDE rating, earn a FIDE title, etc., but you can't "join" FIDE and start running FIDE-rated tournaments like you would with the Japan Chess Association, the United States Chess Federation, the British Chess Federation, etc.

Obtaining a FIDE Membership

Message:
You must obtain a membership a national chess organization (e.g. USCF) which is in turn a member of FIDE.

LOL ...

Message:
I see now why I couldn't find directions to 'join' then.

So practically, what must I do here in Mongolia if and when I get players interested in achieving official ratings?

Any more posts...

... about joining FIDE and so forth should probably go in my other thread about starting a club.

Unfortunately, all of the internet info is out of date for Mongolia.
