Subject: Chess Team checkmates
Message: I've been on my school's chess team for the past 3 years, and I was wondering if anyone knows some good 3/4/5 move checkmates. I already know the one where you move the pawn in front of the king:) I want to win this years chess tournament for my school.

Message: I think it's called. At least here in Norway it's called something like that.
It goes like this:
1. e4 e5
2. Qh5 Nc6
3. Bc4 Nf6/d6/...
4. Qxf7 mate.
If 2. ... g6, then 3. Qxe5+ and 4. Qxh8. winning a pawn and rook for nothing.
It seems many kids have problems defending against this "attack". One defense is 3. ... g6 and black is perfectly ok.
Good luck in the tournament.

Message: The correct names are as follows.
1. e4 e5 2. Bc4 Bc5 3. Qh5 Nc6 4. Qxf7+ = Scholar's Mate
1. f3 e5 2. g4 Qh4++ mate is the shortest mate in the history of chess. And it's called the Fool's mate . Usually , I regard that a scholar plays the Scholar's Mate and a fool plays the Fool's mate , and it is also theoreticlly proved that Fool's Mate is earliest mate (2 moves) and the earliest stalemate is in 12 moves.

Message: For the most part, it's not positionally sound to try for most of these. If your opponent knows what he's doing, he'll soundly defend and force your pieces to retreat back, gaining a lot of time.
