Subject: Resignation!?!?

Message:
My last game played in my past game history my opponent resigned??

It was not a lost position from what i can see barely even past the opening.

If you scroll down further you will see another game that i played against him where he also resigned again not a lost position i dont understand?

You never will understand.....

everything that people do or why they do it.

Just do not worry about it. If it bothers
you then ask him directly. If the answer
you get is not to your liking then just do
not play him again.

Life is too short!!

Post-mortem, VV Style

*VelvetVelour descends like a bad biopsy from above*

I take it you mean Nantais vs. UsethePawn, 21 moves, Siclian. Adolf Andersson used to conduct the white side of the Sicilian in this way.

The resignation is a tad premature, true. White has the worse position, however, no material deficiency. His white-colored bishop is relegated to to being the b-pawn's jailer and is as passive as a pawn. His pawn skeleton is dilapidated and his minor pieces lack coordination. Black's position is far more harmonious by comparison and threatens a number of decisive space-gaining pawn pushes (with proper preparation), especially in the center and Q-side. Black's queen and light-squared bishop along the a8-h1 diagonal has menacing potential towards the white king. White on the other hand has a veritable lack of targets.

I can only surmise that white hated his position so much from a positional standpoint that he resigned. I've been known to do similar things but usually I'm down at least a pawn and more pieces have been traded off; i.e. little chance to inconvienence or "swindle" my opponent. That, and being very young (12), white may have been too impatient to continue with a psychologically depressing middle-game.

Hey chuck!

Message:
I did what you said and messaged him asking why he resigned and He is ignoring me!

I dont get it its not like i said any thing to offend him. At least i hope i didnt i dont recall talking to him at all.

It might have something to do with me postponement as i said no postponements in the description of the mini tournament and i have postponed about 5 times and now all the reamaining games are those of mine lol.

Ah well maybe he just wanted to be finished in the mini tournament but i dont see why he is ignoring me!

i had a similar problem when i versuing an opponent in my mini-tournament. I was about to take his knight (this is the first and only piece which was about to be taken) and he resigned. I e-mailed him and he replyed saying..

Hi
I resigned because I was loseing to many men,you were about to take my knight and I could not get my king to safety fast engough,I did not like what was coming up,I am fairly new to chess so I panic easy LOL.

one problem.. my pieces were no where near his king .. so i really dont know why players resign for an absurd reason or just for no reason at all

It depends on the opponent.....

Message:
.....I very RARELY resign a lost or losing position vs. a player I don't know. This is correspondence chess and the possibilty of time outs is very real. I've played 2500 games and never timed out - but have won MANY games in this situation by my opponent doing so. However, if I'm playing a friend like blackbaron, or someone else I play a lot, I will most certainly resign a lost or losing position when I'm convinced I have no chance of gaining at least a draw. I think most of us here on this site feel the same way...........

Hey baron.............

Message:
I was speaking metaphorically.......the idea of ever having to resign against you occurs so rarely that I didn't think you would mind the free plug:) lol;)
