1/26/2006 07:55:23 play online chess | Subject: FORUM game #3 (FG#3)
Message: As I think ccmcacollister 's idea is good and I think it got killed by the Christmas holidays (and I messed up one of the games) I would like to try to start up one more. I will leave the first move open as the white team captain then can choose any line he want. I will overview the games like ccmcacollister did but I might ask for help from you all.
Good luck and have fun. May we all learn from the game!
Sumsar
The original rules:
#######################################################
[*Foremost is to enjoy the game(s). So RULES here are guidelines we try to follow. But no penalty or negativity about any infraction or misunderstanding of them. In that case, we'll simply clarify and continue the game.]
^^
*Please DO have a board kept set-up to follow the game, if you wish to play. Thus, No "blindfold" moves, Please!
^^
*Anyone with Forum posting privleges can join at any time, but can only make moves for one side or the other; therefore must stick with the color that their first accepted move is.
^^
*When more than one player posts for the same move number, then the first legal move posted will be the accepted move in the game.
^^
*A player can post a move for his side at any point, but cannot make two consecutive moves. Some other player must make a move before the last player to post an accepted move can post another one. (At this time, Conditional Moves will not be made; but might be tried in the future sometime. Probably a later game.)
^^
* A game will be considered RESIGNED if no one posts a move within 24 hours for the side whose turn it is.
^^
[*The first player to post an accepted move for that color (excluding me) will be the Captain of that side for the game. Presently Captains have no particular duty or functions, but perhaps may if it becomes apparent that there is some need for such.]
^^
*I will serve as a REFEREE/MODERATOR in the first couple games, to make any Rules additions, as/if needed. My posts in that capacity WILL BE TYPED TOTALLY IN CAPITAL LETTERS, THUS EVERYONE ELSE IS ASKED TO REFRAIN FROM USING ALL CAPS IN THEIR POSTINGS.
^^
*All participant or spectators are welcome to post notes after the game. Additionally, participants may comment as the game goes on as long as the move commented upon is at least 10 moves in the past. If any move sequence given as arising from that prior move#, try to avoid coming closer than 5 moves to the present position. This is just to avoid commentary that could affect the ongoing play or strategy.
[Still, its all in fun and so if it doesn't work out well, then next time notes can be prohibited until game completion.]
^^
Any suggestions about Rules or format are most welcome.

Ok, I'll dive in too, and even go with Black.
I played Alekhines Defense in my very first tournament game;
Schizazz-Collister / Omaha, Paxton Manor 1972 ...
and dropped a piece after trying-out the stunning new move "2. ... N-K5".
And so I've never played the opening again, in a tournament.
It can only get Better for Me!
***
There is a great line for WT to play in blitz Chess, or perhaps even OTB event.
1.e4 Nf6 2.Bc4 Nxe4 3.Bxf7+ Kxf7 4.Qh5+ g6 etc.
The reason this is a great blitz opening; it puts Black into a position that requires a lot of positional savvy to play properly, and not get buried right out of the opening.
My experience has been that most under about 1800 will not play it well the first time they see it (aka lose) ... and those over 2000 usually will (aka don't lose :) . Given just for a broad generality to indicate some idea of the positional trickiness and the good Surprise Value (as well as the shock value of sac'g so early).
**
If the BL King tries to walk forward so as to try to hold onto his Knight, he'll end up losing it anyway aor getting mated. Tho to do it requires WT to play precisely and know his stuff before entering into it ... if its blitz. And as far as I recall, BL is just in BIG trouble if he tries the walk, whether blitz, OTB or Corr. play.
***
Unfortunately, the reason it is not a good Corr Chess sequence; there seems to be one line I have come across that gives BL the advantage into the middle game.
-SIGH- [So Whatdo Ya Do?! Another Blitz/OTB-only-Opening is born]

2/07/2006 10:10:35 play online chess | sumar ...
Message: Sounds like a good idea to me, to raise it as you suggested. Personally, I'm happy to play at whatever you decide. Or other players. But I did notice in the past games that the one day did seem to short, as people would eventually come along and add to the game when given a bit more time.
(Just as a thought to mention, not something I'd advocate for real, at this time ... An alternative idea for some future game might be to say that TimeOut applies to the players who have been in the game, and others might come along an pick it up from there?! But probably not workable to do with the present player-base being so small to start with.)
Since it looks like I'm elligible to move again, I'll make one for BL if no one else has by this evening. But I encourage our other BL players to hop in and move instead!
I don't really like to get into a situation that I have to make every second move! So please jump in if you have an idea ~!

2/07/2006 10:22:34 play online chess | PS// What do you think?
Message: Another thing I was wondering about; might it make for more interest & participation if we didnt have to wait the 10 moves to comment? Maybe to reduce that to 4 or 5 or something? -OR-
*************************
For a really different idea: What if we allowed some comment about the game with some restrictions, something like this?!
For instance permit a comment by someone after they move but (a) they cannot mention any particular square nor particular move, nor any piece by its name;and are limited to 4 (at most 5?!)
Words. For EG of fair comment then might be: "attacking WT's best piece" or "pressuring key center squares" or "preceding kingside assault". But not anything like "to take the knight" or "going for Ne4" nor "TAKE THE Knight!!" }8-))
What do you think of this idea, sumsar ? {Whether for this game, or just as a future concept to try out} What does everyone else think of it? To me it sounds like it might add some fun and liveliness ... and a bit more strategic continuity from player to player/ move to move/ of each team ... while yet not "Giving Away" too much? Or would it be too much?
Regards
