Message: One of my team players just completed a game for a draw. It went 378 moves. Does anyone know what the most move game is on Chess? Also it may be a world record. Any info would be appreciated.

Message: Thanks for posting your game. That IS a very long one! Certainly longer than any I have seen in the past, except for one.
But in answer to your question ... it would not be close to a world record or GK record for length. There is that one; a game between two other GK players
that has gone over several THOUSAND moves, and is probably still ongoing even now!
It is something of an artistic endeavor tho, in that the players have been trying to produce the very longest game they possibly can; rather than being a game simply played out with strict intent to win by both its players. As is the most usual situation.
So I imagine to exceed the length of that one, someone would have to have a similar goal and approach in mind when playing it.
***
Can one of the players in that one, or someone, give us an update on how it is going? I would be very interested to know how far it has progressed, but havent heard anything in months now.

PS// the 300+ move game you mention is however the longest Completed game that I have ever seen. Have you looked in a source like Guiness Book of World Records, to see what might be listed there? Or a Google search perhaps?

Message: I'm just thinking that technically it was a drawn game at move 132, or at least it could have been claimed drawn by one of the players at that time.

Message: ...when the 50 moves "no progress" (i.e. no pawn move or capture) has been reached? Is it automatically a draw, or are players allowed, by agreement say, to continue? Technically, the material on the board is sufficient to force a win for White (see the "Bishop and Knight endgame" thread!). But it ain't easy. The first thing you have to know, is that checkmate can be forced only on a corner square covered by the bishop. But bear in mind other "accidental" mates are possible (e.g. WKe6 WBe7 WNd6 BKe8), which can be useful to know in order to drive the K where you want it to go.

Message: there have been some games that went up to the 2000+ and 3000+ moves region here on gk. But I don't know by which players. Mathematically, games can last up to 6000 moves (or so) without repeating three times and advancing a pawn in time... I guess, those games are meant to prove that right :o)

Message: Yes long, but this game was over at under 60 moves. 300 moves what were no more than a waste of time :)

Message: from what I understand from my team mate was the he didn't want to resign because it was a team game. He played for a draw. But when he attempted to help his opponent with some helpful suggestions, he was rebuffed, so he played on.

Message: gerrym raised the same question some time ago and we agreed to test that in an unrated game. It took one or two days because we extensively used the conditional move feature.
Result:
GK does NOT notify this rule. None of us got the choice to claim a draw, and the game wasnt finished automatically either. It just continued as normal, so we played 1-2 moves over the 50-limit just to make sure - and then drew the game.
Im not sure if someone can look up this game (its not too exciting) - I cant because for non-paying members no games cant be accessed some weeks after the end. We just played 1. e4 e5 and after that the white Queen had a long walk (with tiny steps) all over the board while the black knight just oscillated between g8 and f6.

Message: unless recently Mike chanched it, the draw is an option as soon as the position is repeated 3 times, but about that 50 move rule, i won't know for sure. i don't believe it's implanted, because it's a bit difficult to do or so, but i'm no programmer.
Greetings

Message: From a programming perspective, it would be very easy to implement a draw option by the 50 move rule. In fact, I could more easily program this than programming it for the 3 time repetition rule.

Possibly allowing some freedom with this type of ending (an additional 200 moves, apparently), lets those who do not know how to mate in 30 moves a chance to win.
