Thought you might like this...

Message:
IVANCHUKKY
'Twas a Brilliancy, and his Master move
Did Bobby Fischer in the Wade;
All Pillsbury was Bogolyubov
In the Dragon Defence he played.

Beware the Poisoned Pawn my son,
The Uncastled King, the Mobility Lack;
Beware the Tempo Loss, and shun
The Premature Counterattack!

So taking his opening book Anand,
Longtime his GM foe he fought,
'Til rested he his head in hand,
And paused a while in thought.

And as he pondered how he stood,
The Ivanchuk with eyes of flame
Came bursting through his centre wood,
Scattering pieces as he came!

One, two! One, two! He played on through
The Yugoslav Attack.
At move fifty-eight, he gave checkmate -
A victory for Black!

"And hast thou slain the Ivanchuk?
Come to my arms Victor Korchnoi!
Reuben Fine! O, Rubinstein!"
He Tchigorined in his joy.

'Twas a brilliancy, and his Master move
Did Bobby Fisher in the Wade.
All Pillsbury was Bogolyubov
In the Dragon Defence he played.

Apologies (tho' not very sincere ones) to Lewis Carroll, and the masters named...
Cheers,
Ion

Now I know you're poet too. Cute - I enjoyed the poem! Especially the "poisoned pawn" part as I've had a recent close scrape with the Winawer poisoned pawn variation that I will avoid in the future! haha.
Best wishes,
thunker

Thanks, thunker...

...I had a look at your game. Is the PP Winawer not looking so good for Black these days? Black looks very uncomfortable for a long time... though you got out of it rather well! I played one several months ago:the 10...Qxa5 line. Thought I'd test it, but since it got axed, it looks bad in retrospect. OK it was by sorceress_queen, but it was pretty comprehensive, I coundn't find any worthwhile play, and got stomped on from right and left.
OK, off topic... But I hope people will continue to contribute to this thread!
Y'know, something like 'The Master formerly known as PRINS'. Make a good 'nick', actually

I haven't killed this thread have I?????
Damn.
I did think this would be popular and fun
For everyone who likes a pun...
I've been wondering if it were possible to parody that old classic "I've been everywhere, man" with a number "I've played everyone, man"? Any takers? A stanza each, maybe?
Cheers,
Ion

I'm just lurking as I'm no good at these type puns and poems....

That was the first time I tried the Winawer PP, but I fired up trusty old Chessbase 9 and scanned for the position for one player >= 2650. It found 13 games since 1990, 6 wins for W, 6 wins for B and one draw so I guess it's still kicking....
Found one game between J Polgar and W Schmidt! Is that wschmidt here? Probably not as the W is "Wlodzimierz" which I doubt would be an American name! haha

One of those games...

Message:
...in which Black seesm to be doing OK until all of a sudden he's not doing OK. So the jury's still out on that 5...Bxc3 Poisoned Pawn line in the Winawer. Good! I hope there's life still in the 5...Ba5 line, too! I also notice a 2B vs 2N middlegame. Possibly Black's demise stemmed, though, from the knight that strayed over to the h-file, never to return, rather than the 'usual' 2B advantage White had.
