 Subject: People on GameknotMessage: I would like to mention an observation I've had during my time here at Gameknot. The average player on Gameknot lives an unusually luxurious life taking wild and exotic vacations on almost a weekly basis. It's quite amazing. |

(though i never saw as one of the benefits of being a member listed: "increased power of voice") but now when you register there is a rank system based on how long you've been a member. you know what I think shows more character than how long you've been a member? whether you hidey our online status or not. i see the word "hiding" as almost synonymous with "cowardly" |

I also hide my online status; this is because I am logged in to GameKnot almost 24/7, but am actually using the site during a small fraction of that time; the little green light showing wouldn't be very helpful in my case. |

I am sure that if you check you games that have been "postponed" by your opponents, many of them are not losing, they are simply on vacation. You have assumed a great deal by your accusation; 1) That your "losing" opponents who have postponed their games are so horrified by the thought of losing to YOU in particular, that they are willing to go to great lengths to delay this potentiality, even to the point of postponing ALL of their games, even the ones they might be winning against other opponents. 2) That is very unfair of ANY opponent of yours to have the temerity to postpone their game against YOU in order to go on holiday (pre-planned or not). Especially those who are in a losing position.They should all have the courtesy to either delay their travel plans untill the game is concluded, or resign the game in your favor in order that you might go on about the business of increasing your rating at your convenience. I need not label you for what you are olympio , it is fairly clear for all to see who read this thread, but if you have any character at all, you might consider admitting the error in perception you have made here. An apology would also be in order to those you have insulted, especially your opponents who ARE on holiday, those whom you have had the privilege to contend with, and have honored you with their time and effort. -JZ |

| kai_sim 7/20/2003 15:21:10 [ report this post ] | i would like to point something out: Message: Many players especially in the league start to move VERY sloooooow, when it comes to pro-/demotions. i actually where never able to finish a game being in the same league as it started! (little reminder: when you lose a game 1 league bellow you'll lose only 0.5 points but you can also get 2 points for the win). I would like to be sarcastic about this as olympio was, but some peeps like zylstraj have some problems with that, so i better don't... I would like to mention the guy who told me, that he's moving now very slow, because he doesn't want to interrupt his huge winning streak of 12 games... olympio, ... i would like to point out, that i set my vacation flag already 3 times this year 1. my apartment got robbed (computer stolen) 2. the new comp had to go to repair 3. a lot personal reasons where coming up (restructuring at work, several birthdays, ...) my next vacation flag will be for my vacation... what I'm trying to say is, that you have a point, many peeps move very slow all of a sudden, when it comes to losing or simply set their vacation flag for a few days and think they will loose less rating points, when you improved your rating in the meanwhile. BUT there can be many more reasons for setting the flag or moving a bit slower. |
| olympio 7/22/2003 01:51:01 [ report this post ] | zylstraj Message: lesson #1 in attacking details. aquaint yourself with all the facts first here is a post of mine earlier in this thread: not sure Message: not sure how i can say it any mor clearly than it's already been stated not too subtlely in this thread.. but the basic idea is that opponents who are losing in games seem to head into vacation mode. and when u check their current games they seem to be losing most of their games.. notice at the end where i say "they seem to be losing most of their games" so your point #1 is invalid. because i was refering to the people who go on spur of the moment vacations when they seem to be losing the majority of their games. so no i was NOT assuming it had anything to with losing to ME in particular. your point #2 looks like it was written really fast so you could look like you'd put some thought into this. point #2 is void when talking about opponents postponing their games because they are losing. which is the issue that is being talked about here.. not about when opponents are actually really going on vacations. and I do not owe anyone apology because I have not insulted anyone directly. (though you have) |
