Subject: QUESTION ABOUT POSTPONEMENT
Message: If I postpone my games then immediately unflag my account for postponement, will I still have the extra 5 days added to all my times?
I had to postpone my games because my internet went down earlier today but now it's back and I want to take the flag off.

Message: german/scandinavian i don't know but i'm guessing it means "you can not"
if it's german it should be Sie koennen nicht and the e after the o means there should be an umlaut on the o..

Message: The flag is used for e.g. team matches. Captains can not select you if your vacation flag is set. If you remove it, time left for the games will not change. It is possible of course to cancel postponements. But for 5 days? Why bother.

Message: "Sic konnen nict" is, if anything at all, a mixture of Latin and grossly misspelled German... :)
Try "Du kannst nicht" next time. (Unless you want to be very polite to olympio, then it should be "Sie knnen nicht", as olympio suggested.)
Thanks for explaining the vacation flag to me, blanka, I never knew what it meant.

9/17/2003 02:29:11 [ report this post ] | Not too polite
Message: It's just normal to say "Sie" instead of "Du". "Sie knnen nicht" means "you are not able to", refering to your question this is of course a possible but not very enlightening answer.

Message: Du was the polite version, reserved for friends and close acquaintances, whilst Sie would be used when speaking to a stranger, and, seeing as Charlie is friends with everyone here, Du would be the most appropriate ;0)
Charlie, 'me old mate, you must advise me which Language School you have signed up with and I will enrol.............not
:)
Kind regards,

9/17/2003 09:38:20 [ report this post ] | Sie and Du
Message: Polite is probably the wrong word. Let's say "formal". "Sie" is formal, "Du" is informal. Comparable by the way to Early Modern English "ye" or "you" and "thou". "You" is the formal version, "thou" the informal. This, of course, tells us a lot about "the English" because they kept the formal variety as the standard variety... :)
Further note that "thou" is a direct descendant of Middle English "thu" - there you can see the close relation to "Du": they're pronounced almost identical.
I don't quite know about the history of "you" but I can do some research if need be... :)
By the way, I think the French started all this formal-informal business...

Message: message from kai_sim
Sie knnen nicht
would be the correct version
finduriel is got it right - except that you would use "du" instead of "sie" with your friends and family only. if you use "du" to a stranger or to an elder person (all about respect), it could be considdered as rude.
so as a friend i should say "Du kannst nicht", but i would never do that, because it's not very bright to say that ;)
best regards

Message: Seriously, I already warned about this and I'm not going to warn again. Discussing how to say something in a different language is an off-topic here. Please find an appropriate forum for this or use the private messaging system.
One more warning for olympio: relaying messages from banned users will get you banned too.

9/19/2003 03:23:20 [ report this post ] | One more thing before I get banned
Message: Here is another example of why these forums should go away. Both Olympio and CPOCF are paying members, and they both are being threatened with banning.
One of the reasons I stopped being a paying member was my being banned for a post that even Mike admitted was not insulting, but he had complaints. Another reason I stopped paying (instead of sponsering another member as I had planned) was that someone else was banned for insulting me......but not only did I not feel insulted, I wrote both her and Mike. He kept her banned
If these forums went away, none of these things would have happened, I would still be a paying member, sponsoring one or two others, and there would not be a risk of losing these two other paying members.
MIKE MAKE THESE FORUMS GO AWAY FOR THE GOOD OF GAMEKNOT!!
