Message: Why is a rose called a rose? Does its name change it?
Gameknot is by far the best chess site on the internet.
Calling it another name would not change that.--BBG

Message: Joe had a good question~!
I wanted to know about that also...
knot means A bond of union; a connection; a tie.
a kind of the united chess group?
Game + knot = a kind of the united chess group ?
and.. I agree with BBG... yea... GK is the Best~!

Message: I think what you meant to say, bluebabygirl, "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet!" -Juliet Capulet
Still, a particularly accurate literature quote for this topic, so I give you props.
Perhaps it is GameKnot because it is a globalized core of gamers braided together into one united community? That's my best guess.

Message: Good Point! Even more I'd like to know ... What does GK smell like?
[ I have a lesion in my smell-center ... 8-( .......]
Still Id like to know how the GK name did come about ?
It is unfortunate tho that the initials can be confused with the "GK" of
Garry Kasparov, or the "Golden-Knights" corr Chess open championship of the
USA.

Message: mormel12 is right. The site was originally started as a collection of different games. But with years it grew into mostly online Chess related website. You can also access GameKnot as chesscolony.com/ if you like. :)
