Subject: how to finish game
Message: Hi, I need help... I play a tournament game (10 th GK Tournament ) with player nato88 and I have a problem. He's loosing and he makes our game as long as possible. It makes nervous other tournament player because they can't start another stage. I think that nato88 makes it on purpose because he plays other games all the time but our game makes move onlu once every two days.
Plese nato 88 , give it up. You have no chance to win this game and to play in further stages...
Can I do something about it ???

Message: Sorry to say but everyone has a different way of seeing things. Just because you see it as an easy win does not mean that he does.
Have you not ever read game annotations where one GM states "this is a drawn position" and another GM says "white has a small chance to win" while yet another GM will say "black is dead lost". Maybe he is not as knowledgeable as you and does not realize it is a lost position OR maybe he is more knowledgeable and you do not realize that there are drawing chances in the position.
The point I am trying to make is that we all evaluate positions in a different way. The position might be won for you but it may not be easy, you might make mistakes, and there are things he can do to make it difficult for you. I must refrain from telling what plan he can use to increase the possibility of a draw but I can think of two plans. I too would play on since there are drawing chances.
After the game, I would be willing to share them with who ever is interested.

6/10/2003 13:22:34 [ report this post ] | I would play on as well ...
Message: ... in such a position. I think it is only right that black asks you to prove you can force the advantage you have, there is sufficient scope for error at present and all is not yet lost.

Message: But I do not see this as an easy win. Nato is doing nothing wrong in playing on. Please display your forced win? If I were Nato, after this post I would force you to play it out to mate and not make any moves before a couple of hours before the time limit is expired. I may even throw a few postponements in just for fun!

6/11/2003 12:16:02 [ report this post ] | Why did you continue at move 10?
Message: Following your reasoning, you should have give up at about move 10, since your position was much more lost (1 piece for a pawn and absolutely no other compensation) than the current one... you choose to fight on and were able to recover thanks to your opponent's mistakes; now, since the current position it's not completely hopeless, why nato 88 shouldn't try the same?

Message: I think you're quite inpolite to demand from your oppenent to give up in a position that maybe is a drawn game, maybe lost. Just play for it, and stop insulting your opponent please!

Message: And why are you continuing to play against 35584443? You are down a piece for a pawn in a losing position. Resign already!!
