Subject: Question about Minitournaments

Message:
I have been reading thru the rules as well as FAQ, but I couldn't find anything about the following:

a) If I start a Minitournament, why is it that I can't choose the range of rating lower than 2350 and higher than 2950?

Best wishes
Cairo

?

I noticed this when I created the Tournament of Pawns a couple of days ago. I'm guessing that the rating limit of a mini tourney has to center somewhere around your own rating, to help limit it to players that more closely match you.

I'm going to ask Mike directly on a mail.

Thanks for your responses!

Plus 300 minus 400

Message:
When you set up a tournament the tourney bot sets the rating to 300 above your rating and 400 points below your rating.

Mike's answer

Message:
Hello,

The rating system is based on a premise that a rating difference of 400 points means practically a certain win. So to ensure a fair selection of players in a mini-tournament, you can only select a
rating range within 300 points of your. You can also start an unrated mini-tournament, in which case you'll be able to invite anyone you like regardless of their rating.

Best regards,
Mike, webmaster of GameKnot.com

That is also in accordance with unacanta's answer above!

Best wishes
