Paul, please "rethink" your.....

Message:
decision to quit team games. I do not like the new
system as much or maybe more than you. Quitting
will not accomplish a thing.

May I suggest you stay on as team captain, play team
games and just stay our of the Forums. That is where
you get more aggravated than anything else. Nothing
ever comes out of those Forums.

If and when they get their way and make team leagues
and make it a mandatory way to play team games then
I will be gone as team captain. Right now I can still live
with this method as difficult as it may be.

Please reconsider!! Chuck

play on!

Message:
dear team captain....
it was sad to see you decide to leave... it was sadder to read the posts that caused it... i understand the principles that tug on you to not let this stand.... therefore...do as you must do...but do not forget us who remain...
as we will not forget you who led us here...

this has been a great site for many...and has brought much joy to even more...the team play has made it all the better...
there are those who do not recognize beauty...but only see the work that goes into it....for them any decision is as good as the next...the b.......
i say 'don't let the haters win' 'play on'... but everyone must decide for themselves how much they can stand...i hope you can return someday...and if the cynics are still here...so too will be your team....till then....
'o captain...my captain...you have my best....kinghenry...

reconsider

Message:
Paul,

Would like to suggest that we press on with team games with the focus on the "score" column of the team rankings. Ignore the "rating" column. It's useless. I think Mike will eventually come to his senses as he made a decision that didn't represent the majority (not to mention it was a stupid decision). If other captains are focused on the "rating" column then so be it.

Would really hate to see you leave although I understand your position.
Regards,
Dave

to stay or not to stay, that is the question

Message:
Dear teammembers, (and chuckventimiglia)

Since my post I received a lot of messages, in private and here in the thread. I'm asked to reconcider. I will reconcider and I'm not gone yet!

I've sent chuckventimiglia a personal message about an idea. If we can sort something out it even can be fun.

Paul (demuziekdoos), still your teamcaptain!

What's going on?

Message:
What is going on with the team? We havn't had any new matches in a long time. My last games were March 3rd. I like being part of this team but we need to start being a team again. I know I said I was thinking about quiting but that won't slove the problem with the ranking system. Lets play any and all teams out there and get are score up. If we have a top ten score the other teams out there all know that we are a good team and if you play someone from are team they will know that they are in for a good match.

two new (small) matches

Message:
Hello team,

A small match just started. We play a brand new team, they started today! This team is a very small team (only 2 members at this moment) so its a small match. We play a match with Shadow_Warriors

trailblazer (1482) matingmattman (1389)
diogenes (1268) shadowbane0117 (1080)

Just before I intended to post this part another match started as well. This team if founded yesterday so it is also a small match. We play with The Knights who say NI

omus (1596) prestochango150 (1526)
cm2003 (1344) jvold (1315)

Enjoy your matches. I will try to find us some more but I have to tell you it is very hard now.

Gameknot Frustration

Message:
Hi all

I've been cogitating for a few days about the situation here and frankly I am very frustrated with the gameknot site. I used to enjoy the games, the camaraderie (sp) and the forums when I first signed up. Then the forums were closed and all that was left was the team. Now the team system has been shot down (IMHO) as well.

I've pondered leaving the site altogether (my previous two absences were due to losing a job then losing a baby, not the site); but that doesn't seem right somehow.

I really like this site. Its the best chess correspondence site I've encountered, but I cannot continue like this. So stalemate.

What I propose to do is this:
1. I'm accepting no more team games at the moment.
2. I will continue to play the team tournament - I value the team more than the team play (if that makes sense)
3. I have started work on my own chess site (I'm a software developer).

Would you guys like to be my testers once I get my site up and running? I plan to have moderated forums and unmoderated forums; correspondance and blitz games; a player league and a team league and as many other optional extras as I can hook together. More significantly I plan to make decisions about the site a democratic process between site members. At some point this may be restricted to paying members, but to begin with everyone will have a vote.

What do you think?

to bigmick

Message:
Let's first say that I would like you to stay here at GK. If you're sure you don't want any team games at this moment then I will not give you any. I am only accepting fair matches on ELO basis now so if a match is started I'm going for the rating points. If you think you would like to play that way just let me know.

About your own chess site. It sounds very intresting and I would be glad to be a tester. It sounds very intresting. I wish I was able to be a software developer (I do write book-keeping software for my father but I guess I'm just a simple amateur).

I hope to hear from you very soon.

Paul

count me in for any testing

Message:
BigMick, I would like to help you test a chess site. Gameknot is the best site of it's kind. www.redhotpawn.com is ok I play at that site too (cm2003). Gameknot has alot more for the non-paying members. I was going to become a paying member of Gameknot but with the change in the team play I'm not going to at this time. I also play sometimes and www.letsplaychess.com but I don't like the layout of there chess site. It's too hard to get around the site. I to have thought about making a chess site but just don't know were to start. I have a BS in IT but not alot of programing in my background just some basic HTML, Java, C++, Access and most of that was in school. As a matter of fact all of my IT experence is from school. Off the subject but to the IT people on the team how does a person with a BS in IT and no work experence get a job in IT when all jobs are looking for experence. And would it help to get A+, N+, MSCE and the like. I would like to get into the IT field but I'm having a hard time with no work experence under my belt.

new match, who is intrested in being a captain?

Message:
Hello team,

A new team match just started. We play a match with The Pawn Stars, a brand new team. Its the first match for this team.

sdr46 (1596) aucklander7 (1536)
umpito (1338) mrclau (1338)
diogenes (1278) srpen (1182)
pumperstein (1155) xena (1145)

Mike made a suggetion for a team ladder. I think that idea is even worse than the current system. Perhaps even a team league will be set up. You will have to accept challenges so you are no longer allowed to set you own number of team games or the teams will be split in several pieces. For me thats the end of playing in a team and I will quit playing team games. This means that this team really needs a new team captain. Who is intrested?

Team ranking and Bigmick's site

Message:
With three members of my family now invested in the team, I will stick with it no matter what! . . . Well, actually I can imagine some conditions . . . . let's just say almost no matter what (no matter almost what?).

Paul, I hope you decide to stay on the team, even if not as captain. BTW, you've been an outstanding captain. I still think our best course is to play on as if nothing happened to the rankings. We can still find out our ranking under the old system with a mere click of the mouse. Let's just go by that and let Mike hang himself . . . so to speak.

Bigmick, I'd be happy to test your site when its up. You're very civic-minded, not to say brave (or insane?) to think of starting a new site. I think you really *would* be crazy, though, to have a "democratic process between site members." However good in theory, it doesn't work on the internet because there is not enough ability to enforce order in the debates, and no way to limit the voting to those with a long-term interest in the success of the site. Take input by all means, but reserve the right to make all final decisions yourself. The problem with this site is not lack of democracy, but lack of a webmaster with good judgment in certain areas.

Bob
